SHE-CAN Scholar helps donate feminine hygiene products to young Rwandan girls through Kasha internship – by Diane Ingabire
When I was young, I built a heart that wanted to give to my community. Everything I wanted to be involved in revolved around helping people. With the help of SHE-CAN, I got an internship in Kasha which is a platform for women’s health products and information serving women across all socioeconomic levels in urban and rural areas.
I work in the marketing department where I help monitor Kasha social media and support the marketing leader in hitting new customer growth and retention goals. We have a lot of activities going on in the company to gain new customers but we also reach out to help people in need. For example, Kasha bought pads and donated them to a secondary school called Saint Albert located at the Rilima, Bugesera district.
On June 2, 11 people from Kasha, including myself, went to Saint Albert secondary school, and we took around 660 pads to donate to the young girls to facilitate them in their education since some girls miss school due to their monthly periods. The girls miss classes for four or more days because they don’t have the right resources to use for their periods. We talked about girls hygiene and they asked some questions to learn more. It was a privilege to hear from them and to see the smiles on their faces afterwards.

Through my internship, I’m learning different skills that I will use in the future. Also, it has helped me connect to people in different communities where I have learned the issues surrounding them and figured out how I can act to change their lives positively.
