Mouy grew up in Phnom Penh. After graduating from Santhormok High School, Mouy won a scholarship to attend the Institute of Foreign Language (IFL), where she is a first-year student majoring in International Studies. During high school, Mouy was the class monitor and president of Math Club, which she started with her friends. Outside of school, she volunteered in many capacities, including as a member of BarCamp Phnom Penh where she had been part of the team since 2015. There, she learned leadership skills and exchanged experiences with BarCamp organizers from ASEAN countries. Mouy aspires to become a Cambodian ambassador in order to advocate for Cambodians who have been deceived to work outside of their home country as unpaid housemaids or factory workers. She knows that these people are suffering from violence and cruelty and that many want to return home but are forced to stay. Therefore, she wants to work to protect their rights and help them return home safely. In her role, she hopes to also contribute to the growth of Cambodia’s economy so that there will be more jobs and less illegal employment. Mouy also plans to use her platform to encourage women to pursue higher education and unlock their potential because she knows that women have what it takes to be leaders. Mouy will start her freshman year at Lafayette College in the Fall of 2018.
