Chakriya (Riya) Ou: Seeking a Non-profit or International Development Internship

Bio: Riya attends Gettysburg College majoring in Economics with a minor in Data Science. This semester, she is studying abroad at Lancaster University in the UK. Last summer, she interned at Transparency International Cambodia, where she worked closely with WYEL (Women and Youth Empowerment in Leadership Program) staff and participants to ensure successful delivery of planned activities including trainings, workshops, advocacy campaigns, and youth-led projects.
On campus, she is a member of the President Advisory Group for Inclusion and Belonging, and Alpha Phi Omega. She also works as a Library Student Supervisor where she assists in training new student hires, oversees overall user services performance, and is a Peer Research Mentor helping students with their research process. In her first year, she was selected to represent Gettysburg at the National Leadership & Diversity Convention.
Before joining SHE-CAN and coming to the U.S, Riya organized a fundraiser to provide necessary school supplies to 47 primary school students back in her hometown in Kampong Cham province, Cambodia and was a very involved youth advocate at Transparency International Cambodia where she attended trainings, implemented a community project, went on a study tour in Malaysia, and was a guest speaker on a national radio show discussing her involvement in social activities. Riya is passionate about economic development, education, leadership, and women and youth empowerment. She believes that women and youth participation in decision making at both national and sub-national levels are very crucial to further develop Cambodia.
