About the SHE-CAN Scholarship Coalition
What is the SHE-CAN Scholarship Coalition?
SHE-CAN partners with a group of prestigious U.S. colleges and universities that support women’s global leadership. Schools provide one or more SHE-CAN scholars with a full-ride scholarship that covers tuition and room & board. SHE-CAN covers all wrap-around support and funding necessary for scholars to succeed on campus and move into leadership roles at home.
Through their partnership with SHE-CAN, these schools are able to provide scholarships to a subset of women who otherwise would not be able to attend university abroad. Therefore, the Coalition schools are contributing to lasting systematic change by pushing their scholarship investments down the socio-economic pyramid.
Our partner schools see how the impact of their investment stretches far beyond the international student herself. SHE-CAN schools are able to enrich their student body with low-income young women whose communities suffered genocide and war. By living, studying, and socializing with those who were personally impacted by some of the world’s recent atrocities, their students’ horizons broaden. Students attitudes toward peace and reconciliation change as they become culturally prepared to thrive in today’s global economy. Our partner schools agree that the more globally aware our youth are, the more stable and secure we all are.
SHE-CAN is grateful for the partnership and investments these distinguished organizations make towards the success of our scholars, year after year.

SHE-CAN and its Coalition schools come together to usher in systemic change impacting future generations. This partnership is essential in building women's global leadership because:
- Educating women is a key driver for economic, political and social change in developing countries.
- Supporting scholars from post-conflict countries is especially important because women leaders foster peace and prosperity and are instrumental to easing the gender burden.
- Coalition schools work together to invest in forming groups of concentrated female power.
- SHE-CAN graduates will grow into powerful groups of female leaders, who support each other in breaking centuries old cultural barriers.
- Coalition schools directly address five United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) that target gender equality, education and women’s leadership; including SDG’s: 4.3, 4.4, 5.5, 5.5.1 and 5.5.2
- A U.S. or western college degree is an unstated requirement for any influential leadership position in the developing world.
