Mission
To equip and empower young women from post-conflict countries to become leaders who change their nations.
Why We Do It
Many sources point to women as key to ushering peace, prosperity, and women’s rights into the developing world. Yet repressive cultural attitudes and lack of higher education prevent them from challenging the system. Widespread change requires an influential number be given opportunities to gain the credentials and confidence needed to defy the system they grew up in and thrive as change-agents and role models.
Our Success
SHE-CAN has gradually increased the number of scholars accepted into the program each year. As of Winter 2017, a total of 46 young female leaders from Cambodia, Rwanda and Afghanistan, with the support of 200+ U.S. mentors, have won full-ride scholarships to top schools including: Lehigh, Lafayette, Bennington, Whitman, Harvard, Smith, Scripps, UC Berkeley, Oberlin, Bucknell and many more. Connected by a powerful mentor network and bolstered with a top-notch education, SHE-CAN scholars are attaining coveted internships and leadership opportunities at influential organizations, including Women for Women, Partners in Health and U.S. congressional offices.
