Class of 2023 |
Sahas Sok is a sophomore at the University of Portland studying civil engineering. Since stepping foot on the Manhattan subway system, and riding public transportation in Portland and San Francisco, Sahas has taken a special interest in traffic and transportation engineering. After graduation, Sahas hopes to build an effective and ecological public transportation system, and improve traffic and urban infrastructure when she returns to Cambodia.
When she’s not in class, Sahas is an office assistant to the School of Nursing at UP. She is also a member of the International Student Club, the Engineering Club and Intramural Soccer. Before coming to the U.S., Sahas was a part of many projects to further develop Cambodia and even started her own project called Yes Student Network (YSN). YSN was created with the goal of igniting a passion for STEM in high school students living in more rural provinces of Cambodia. Her passion for getting more women into STEM led her to be a project support officer at STEM Sisters Cambodia, where she worked for five months before her US departure and when also when she returned to Cambodia this past winter break. When she returned, she was asked to be a content creator for the group’s STEM clubs. |
