Class of 2023
Sahas Sok is a junior at the University of Portland studying civil engineering. Since stepping foot on the Manhattan subway system, and riding public transportation in Portland and San Francisco, Sahas has taken a special interest in traffic and transportation engineering. After graduation, Sahas hopes to build an effective and ecological public transportation system, and improve traffic and urban infrastructure when she returns to Cambodia.
When she’s not in class, Sahas is an undergraduate researcher for the civil engineering department at her school working on Water Supply and Wildfire Risk in Oregon which she think, is so relevant and important. She is also a member of the International Student Club, and the American Society of Civil Engineers club. Before coming to the U.S., Sahas was a part of many projects to further develop Cambodia and even started her own project called Yes Student Network (YSN). YSN was created with the goal of igniting a passion for STEM in high school students living in more rural provinces of Cambodia. Her passion for getting more women into STEM led her to be a project support officer at STEM Sisters Cambodia, where she worked for five months before her US departure and when also when she returned to Cambodia this past winter break.
Because of her true passion for STEM education and females in STEM, she has been given multiple opportunities at this organization working as STEM Content Creator, STEM Ambassador Lead, Project Support Officer and now a Robotics Program Officer where she continues to help girls participating in World Robotic Olympia.
