Class of 2024
Sythong Run will be our first SHE-CAN scholar at Syracuse University, beginning in the fall of 2020. Sythong is from northwestern Cambodia, but studied at the Liger Leadership Academy in Phnom Penh on a full-ride scholarship. Sythong is particularly passionate about health education. She led a team that conducted a survey on dengue fever risk within a rural community, going door to door to spread knowledge of the disease. Her team submitted their findings to the Ministry of Health, and even wrote an educational play to help spread the message about dengue fever risk. Finding creative solutions to public health problems is what Sythong sees herself doing to contribute to the development of Cambodia. Growing up in a lower socio-economic household, Sythong witnessed many family members who suffered from health conditions. With more health knowledge, many of these conditions could have been healed or prevented from getting worse. Touched by childhood memories and her experience growing up, Sythong wants to work in the medical field and promote health knowledge in her country in order to save as many people as possible.
